When Kurt Cobain’s Favorite Mötley Crüe Album Was Revealed By Vince Neil

Late Nirnava frontman Kurt Cobain is one of the most significant figures in rock music. Despite his short-lived music career that spanned over only 12 years, the musician managed to turn himself into a global phenomenon with his angst-fueled songwriting and anti-establishment persona as well as his private life.

Nirvana fans are so devoted that they know everything about Cobain, from his personal life to music taste. When something new pops up about the musician’s life, it instantly draws great attention, as expected. That’s why the band’s fans were surprised to hear Mötley Crüe singer Vince Neil’s statement back in 2014.

Neil didn’t only reveal that Cobain was a fan of their band, but he also disclosed the Nirvana icon’s favorite Mötley Crüe album. Let’s travel back in time to see the details of the interview.

Kurt Cobain Was A Mötley Crüe Fan

For those of you who may not know, Kurt Cobain had a long list of musicians that he admired. His primary influence was the Beatles and especially their lead singer John Lennon. He was also a fan of 1970s heavy metal bands such as Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, Queen, and KISS.

Since he was interested in various genres, Cobain was also a fan of the Stooges, Pixies, and R.E.M. The rocker became a devoted fan of lesser-known indie bands such as The Vaselines, Meat Puppets, and Wipers. Due to being one of the most important artists in rock music, every band he liked is known by his fans.

However, it wasn’t publicly known that the Nirvana frontman was a fan of Mötley Crüe until lead singer Vince Neil revealed it during an interview. Apparently, the feeling was mutual as the vocalist gave more details about their relationship; let’s take a look.

Vince Neil Shared Kurt Cobain’s Favorite Mötley Crüe Album

As there’s a long list of Kurt Cobain’s favorite albums, including Aerosmith’s ‘Rocks,’ R.E.M.’s ‘Green,’ and the Beatles’ ‘Meet The Beatles,’ fans may think they know everything about the musician’s taste. Vince Neil once proved all the Nirvana fans wrong during an interview.

Speaking with the U.K.’s Q magazine back in 2014, Vince Neil opened up about the time he was talking to Kurt Cobain’s wife, Courtney Love. Apparently, the two had a close relationship as Love revealed one of the Nirvana singer’s favorite albums during one of the conversations.

According to Neil, one of Kurt Cobain’s favorite albums of all time was Mötley Crüe’s debut studio album, ‘Too Fast for Love,’ which was released on November 10, 1981. Before this interview, nobody knew about Cobain’s admiration for the band and that he even had a favorite album.

Vince Neil’s statement regarding Kurt Cobain follows:

“I was talking to Courtney Love one time, and she told me that one of Kurt Cobain’s favorite records was ‘Too Fast for Love.”

While Courtney Love never commented on Neil’s statement, it’s clear that she would have directly debunked this fact if it was false, considering her outspoken personality. According to many Mötley Crüe fans, the 1981 album is one of their greatest works, if not the best, making Cobain’s admiration understandable.
