If you are a fan of Murderdolls, you are probably aware that their most famous track is actually a cover.
The horror punk band was formed around the 2000s and has released two studio albums since the beginning of its career. Though they secured a few hits with tracks such as ‘My Dark Place Alone’ and ‘Dead In Hollywood,’ the rockers’ most known hit today is Billy Idol’s ‘White Wedding.’
In a recent interview with Everblock Podcast, Wednesday 13 discussed how the cover ultimately became a hit. Reminiscing about the days after their first reunion, the singer explained why they initially did not want to put the song on their setlist:
“When Murderdolls got back together for the ‘Women And Children Last,’ we didn’t put that song on the setlist because we didn’t really like playing it before because we were such an energetic, crazy band playing that song and playing all those notes correctly was a gamble every night. So we didn’t have a good experience playing it before and somehow Joey [Jordison] and I, we talk each other out of putting it on the setlist.”
Apparently, there was another certain reason that was holding the band back from playing the cover during their set:
“So what I’m saying is we didn’t play that song, I didn’t know the reaction we would get. The very first show when we went into that song, it was just like [imitates being shocked], and I was like, ‘Whoa, what’s happening here?’ You can just feel it. Every single night the on this tour the same thing [happened]; we play that song, it’s not our song, it’s our version of it, but the reaction was… Everybody was singing.”
The fans loved the song, but Murderdolls hadn’t realized the cover would eventually become their top hit. Wednesday 13 continued:
“They already knew the song probably from Billy Idol but our version, it was such a cool thing. It made me realize, ‘This is kind of like our hit song. Have you ever wanted to say we had a hit?’ And I didn’t play it for 20 years, what the f*ck’s wrong with me? So that was every night I really looked forward to that song, although I gotta wait till the end of the show to play it.”
There Is No New Murderdolls Music

Though Murderdolls are currently actively touring, there is no hope for new music. Still, the band sees touring as a way of celebrating their songs after the sudden passing of their drummer Joey Jordison:
“After 21 years since [‘Beyond The Valley Of The Murderdolls”] release, and the recent sad and premature passing of Joey, it only feels right to go out and celebrate these songs.”
There seem to be some unreleased demos, but Wednesday 13 refuses to release them. Though the band’s initial plan was to release those tracks, they were banned by the record company for being ‘too offensive.’ In addition to the unreleased tracks, the rockers also wanted to cover David Bowie’s ‘Five Years.’ Who knows, maybe it would have been another hit for the band as well.
