Hatebreed guitarist Wayne Lozinak has shared a health update ahead of his upcoming brain tumor surgery. He expressed gratitude for fan support in a statement posted on Instagram.

The guitarist provided details about his current condition and the scheduled surgical procedure. He thanked fans for their continued encouragement.

“Hello! Just wanted to give another update for those that are interested,” Lozinak said. “First off, I still feel fine. Haven’t had any episodes again like the first one I had after Download fest, so that’s good. Also on medication at the moment, that’s supposed to help with that not happening again.”

Lozinak outlined the specifics of his upcoming surgery and recovery timeline.

“Second, I have a few more appointments at the medical offices to get ready for surgery, which is scheduled for August 4th,” he continued. “I will be getting a craniotomy, which they basically will be cutting into my skull over my left ear, taking the tumor out, then patching everything back up. Something like that… you can google more on it, if you’d like to know what it actually involves.”

The guitarist addressed his expected recovery period and return to performing.

“Not sure how long it will take to recover, but they said probably will be a minimum of at least 6 weeks,” Lozinak explained. “It’s different for everyone, so only time will tell… But I will be back out there as soon as I feel like I can, and of course if they tell me it’s safe to do so! Will keep you informed as that time approaches.”

He concluded by acknowledging the support from the Hatebreed community.

“Thank you all again, for the amount of positivity being thrown my way!” he said. “It feels good and is really appreciated!”

The guitarist plans to provide further updates as his surgery date approaches.

Lozinak’s health situation began during Hatebreed’s performance at Download Festival in mid-June. He experienced mild symptoms that led to medical evaluation.

Loudwire reported that Lozinak’s brain tumor was identified following these symptoms during the festival performance. A CT scan and subsequent MRI revealed the tumor to be a benign meningioma. This is a slow-growing mass that had likely been present for years without causing noticeable effects.

Blabbermouth noted that this diagnosis is considered the best possible outcome given the circumstances. Meningiomas are typically non-cancerous and have favorable treatment prospects. The tumor’s benign nature means that complete surgical removal often results in excellent long-term outcomes for patients.

The band has made temporary adjustments to their lineup during Lozinak’s medical leave. Loudwire confirmed that bassist Matt Bachand has shifted to guitar duties. Karl from First Blood has stepped in to fill the bass position for upcoming tour dates.

Hatebreed formed in 1994 and has been a prominent force in the hardcore and metalcore scenes for nearly three decades. The Connecticut-based band has released multiple albums and maintained an active touring schedule. Lozinak’s temporary absence represents a significant adjustment for both the group and their dedicated fanbase.
