Last In Line drummer Vinny Appice has confirmed that the band is already working with a potential new vocalist to replace Andrew Freeman.

Appice revealed that the process is still in its early stages. No live shows are planned, and the focus remains on chemistry and songwriting.

“We’re working with somebody — I don’t wanna mention names — and we’re getting together soon and checking out how that works, as far as, ‘Let’s write some stuff together. Let’s play,'” Appice said. “We’re not doing any gigs. So it’s gonna be a while for the next album.”

Appice also addressed the band’s current standing with their record label, noting that their deal remains intact while they navigate the transition.

“And we still have a deal with earMUSIC, we still got a record deal with the record company, so everything’s sitting there,” he continued. “And it’s a matter of seeing if it works. If it doesn’t work, then we’ll be going to the next step. So, [it’s] kind of on a hold right now.”

Freeman departed the band in June 2026. The specific circumstances surrounding his exit have not been publicly addressed, and Appice declined to discuss the matter during the interview.

Bassist Phil Soussan has indicated that the band is close to making an official announcement regarding the new vocalist. The search appears to be moving faster than initially expected, with a resolution potentially on the horizon.

Last In Line released their most recent album in 2024 under earMUSIC. The ongoing record deal provides a stable foundation as the band works through the lineup change, with the next album on hold pending the outcome of the singer search.

The band was originally formed in 2011 by former Ronnie James Dio band members Vinny Appice and Jimmy Bain. Built around the legacy of classic Dio-era material, the vocal position carries significant weight for the band’s identity and direction.
