Eagles member Vince Gill voiced his concerns about performing at the Sphere venue in Las Vegas. He shared these thoughts during his appearance on the Shred With Shifty podcast.
The veteran musician described his experience with the venue’s immersive visual effects and their impact on his stage performance.
“I try to ignore it. I try not to watch any of the content, because it’s pretty distracting. And it makes me get a little bit wobbly. Things are moving and tilting, and it’s pretty neat,” Gill explained.
He reflected on the audience’s reaction to the spectacular visual display. “I jokingly tell people it’s the most people I’ve ever been ignored by at a gig. But you know, they’re there to see the bells and whistles, and that’s the point of it all.”
Gill elaborated on how the visual effects affect his performance. “I’ll find myself, if I start watching it, forgetting to come back in and sing, and this and that, and get distracted.”
The Eagles maintain their residency at the Sphere. The venue continues to showcase its signature state-of-the-art visual technology.
Gill’s journey with The Eagles emerged from a pivotal moment in the band’s history.
Taste of Country revealed that Gill joined The Eagles in 2017 after founding member Glenn Frey’s passing in 2016. He initially performed at select events, including the Classic East and Classic West festivals.
Saving Country Music highlighted Don Henley’s personal selection of Gill. The choice stemmed from their friendship and earlier collaboration on Henley’s album “Cass County.”
His role evolved from occasional appearances to a permanent position. Cat Country documented Gill’s transition to regular member status for their live tour dates. He has since made significant contributions to the band’s continuing legacy.
