One of the memories she shared was a story from a 2024 outing that captured Hinds’ playful and unpredictable spirit. The anecdote centers on a concert incident that spiraled into an elaborate, good-humored prank.

“1 year without this wild boy. One of my favorite Brent stories. We went to see Os Mutantes in 2024 and he got kicked out/banned for flipping someone off,” Moreno said. “As he’s getting kicked out, he looks at me and goes, ‘Don’t worry. I’ll come back.’ Security said, ‘No, you won’t.’ So I just stay in and enjoy the show, not my first rodeo.”

The story continued with an unexpected twist involving a stranger at the bar.

“A little while later, this extremely COVID-era-looking stranger in a mask, gloves, wig, and glasses starts talking way too close to my face at the bar,” Moreno continued. “I’m thinking, why the f*ck is this person dressed like this if they’re going to be two inches from my face?”

The mystery was soon revealed to be none other than Hinds himself, who had gone to remarkable lengths to sneak back into the venue.

“Then looks at me and goes, ‘You really can’t tell that’s Brent, right?'” Moreno said. “This man had gone to the theater next door where he knew people, borrowed on entire disguise, snuck back in, and created a whole persona. He watched the entire show like that.”

The story ended with one final flourish from Hinds before leaving the venue.

“And because getting away with it wasn’t enough, while he was leaving, he found the owner and dramatically revealed himself,” Moreno said.

Moreno also shared that she recently got a “Dirty B” tattoo in honor of Hinds, further commemorating the memory of the Mastodon guitarist a year after his death.

The tribute comes as fans continue to reflect on the circumstances surrounding Hinds’ sudden death. They also reflect on the legacy he built during his decades with Mastodon.

Hinds died at 51 following a motorcycle crash in Atlanta on August 20, 2025, when his Harley-Davidson collided with a BMW SUV. A revised police report later determined that Hinds was at fault in the crash. It found that he had been traveling between 63 and 68 mph in a 35 mph zone at the time of the collision.

As a founding member and guitarist of Mastodon, Hinds helped build one of modern metal’s most celebrated bands. He earned a Grammy nomination for Best Metal Performance in 2022 for the song “Pushing the Tides.”

Hinds and Moreno, who is Brazilian, shared a close bond that extended into his creative work. In 2020, he released a song titled “Raisinha” as a playful tribute to her. It was a nod to the affection that clearly endured even after their marriage ended.

That enduring connection is reflected in the tender and humorous memories Moreno continues to share. They paint a fuller picture of Hinds as both a beloved partner and an unforgettable presence to those who knew him.
