Kelly Osbourne has opened up about the first time she tried cocaine. She revealed that one of her late father Ozzy Osbourne’s friends from a major band introduced her to the drug, in the documentary If These Walls Could Rock.
The story centers on the Sunset Marquis hotel, a longtime haunt for the Osbourne family. Kelly says she did her first line of cocaine there after it was given to her by one of her father’s famous friends.
“We’d be kicked out of everywhere, but not the Sunset Marquis,” Kelly Osbourne said. “My dad could misbehave politely here. I did my first line of cocaine in this hotel. Which was given to me by one of my dad’s friends in a very, very, very big band.”
Kelly went on to explain why she never told her parents about who was responsible for introducing her to the drug.
“And I could never tell my parents,” she continued, “because they would f*cking kill him.”
Kelly’s battle with substance abuse started at age 13, when she was prescribed Vicodin after having her tonsils removed. That early exposure led to years of drug and alcohol use and multiple rehab stays.
Kelly has also spoken candidly about her early recovery attempts. “First rehab I went to was like university on how to be a better drug addict,” she said.
If These Walls Could Rock examines the Sunset Marquis and its place in music history. The film features interviews with figures including Bruce Springsteen, Ringo Starr, Slash, Cyndi Lauper, Morrissey and Dave Grohl.
For decades, the Sunset Marquis has served as a private West Hollywood refuge for musicians, making it a fitting setting for Kelly’s story.
