Former Slayer guitarist Kerry King revealed his criteria for selecting members of his new solo band during a recent interview with Sweetwater.

“I wanted, first and foremost, it to be a friend of mine, in my age group,” King said. “I don’t have anything against people like somebody my age getting in a band with somebody 25. I’ve got nothing against it; I just didn’t wanna do that.”

“I wanted us to look like a cohesive group of people,” he continued. “And first and foremost, it was a friendship. No divas, no drama backstage.”

“We get done playing, and if somebody messes up, we’ll all make fun of ’em [Laughs],” King added. “It’s a good environment, man. I’m having a f*cking blast.”

His commitment to working with seasoned professionals marks a significant moment in his career trajectory. The Los Angeles Times reported that his debut solo album ‘From Hell I Rise’ launched in May 2024. This release represents his first major project since Slayer’s hiatus began in 2019.

The new album opens a fresh chapter for King. He has established himself as one of metal’s most influential guitarists over the decades. Louder Sound noted that this solo venture enables him to explore new musical directions. He maintains the intensity that defined his work with Slayer.

King remains selective about revealing his band lineup. His emphasis on age-appropriate collaborators and a drama-free environment stems from his extensive industry experience. Kahler USA highlighted that his approach to forming this new group reflects lessons from his Slayer tenure. He prioritizes both musical compatibility and personal chemistry.

The veteran guitarist hasn’t announced official tour dates yet. Fans eagerly await his return to the stage following his successful solo release.
