Halestorm frontwoman Lzzy Hale shared her experiences with Alcoholics Anonymous in a recent interview with Ryan Dusick.
“No, I didn’t. I actually only as of recently started to started to go to AA meetings and it’s so beautiful,” Hale replied when asked whether she liked the 12 the traditional steps. “I didn’t go for a long time because I was afraid of like the culty aspect and the religious aspect because I went to a Christian school. And like the God that everybody preaches to you kind of burned me.”
“But what I realized is that when I went to my first AA meeting this year, it was a couple months ago, and I walk in and I’m like ‘God damn it,'” she continued. “I’m sitting there, and they said ‘God, the gift of desperation. And God can be this coffee cup speak to your higher power.'”
“So that really blew my mind, and at the end, I told them. Because I was like 400 and some whatever days sober and the guy, the head guy Michael was like well come up and get all these coins,” Hale shared. “And I just baldled because it was the first time that I actually really felt seen for all of the righteous work that I had done on my own. And then what I realized that as I kept going that I start meeting people and it’s like going to church it really is.”
“And you start meeting people and hearing their stories, and you’re saying ‘Oh my god I’m not alone,'” she added. “All of these people are going through the same thing, and we’re not bad people. We’re just sick, sad people that are trying to become well and trying to become happy and find our peace. If anybody is watching this, there is no shame in reaching out and asking for help and going to AA meetings.”
Her revelation follows more than 400 days of sobriety, marking a significant milestone in her recovery journey.
Loudwire revealed Hale’s dedication to a ‘rock ‘n’ roll monk’ lifestyle. This approach includes avoiding excessive drinking and maintaining physical health to enhance her performance capabilities.
During this transformative personal period, Hale’s musical career continues to flourish. Blabbermouth reported that she and bandmate Joe Hottinger completed ‘Halestorm’s Lzzy And Joe: The Living Room Sessions’ tour. The tour featured intimate acoustic performances of their songs.
The band is currently recording with producer Dave Cobb. They are creating the follow-up to their 2022 album ‘Back From The Dead.’ This new project aligns with Hale’s personal growth and sobriety journey.
Hale is also exploring literary expression. She is writing a biography that weaves fantasy elements into her narrative. This approach allows her to share life experiences while maintaining personal boundaries.
