Journey guitarist Neal Schon has once again reminded fans why he remains one of rock’s most celebrated players. He shared a video of his live guitar solo performance of the band’s song “Of a Lifetime” from a recent show in Hawaii, according to Facebook. The clip quickly drew praise from Journey fans, who insisted that Schon is still delivering standout live performances even as the band appears to be winding down following the completion of its Final Frontier tour.
Schon shared some context about the performance in the caption accompanying his video.
“A snip of ‘Of a Lifetime’ will go back to the Governors gifted guitar later tonight for this song,” Neal Schon wrote.
The video prompted an outpouring of admiration from fans in the comments section, many of whom ranked Schon among the greatest guitarists of all time.

Journey performed “Of a Lifetime” in Honolulu on September 5, 2026, slotting it as the ninth song in the set at Neal S. Blaisdell Arena. The performance came during a stop billed as part of the Final Frontier Tour. The band also played dates in the islands on September 6 and 8.
The Hawaii shows carried special significance for the guitarist and the band. During Journey’s Honolulu media event, Hawaii Governor Josh Green presented Neal Schon with a guitar, according to Aloha State Daily. The presentation was joined by proclamations from both the governor and Honolulu Mayor Rick Blangiardi honoring the band’s return to the islands.
That return carried deep symbolism. More than 50 years ago, when Journey was just starting out, the band played its second-ever public concert at the Sunshine Festival at Diamond Head Hill Crater in front of more than 100,000 people. Neal Schon was on stage that day as the band’s lead guitarist. Coming back to Honolulu for what are billed as the band’s final Hawaii shows closed a circle that began at the very start of Journey’s career.
The gifted guitar from Governor Green now carries its own story. Schon revealed that a piece of his “Of a Lifetime” solo will be dedicated to the instrument during future performances. That gesture ties the band’s origins in Hawaii to its closing chapter on the road.
