UFO Is Officially Done, Phil Mogg Confirms

UFO officially called it quits after over five decades of career.

During a new interview with Ultimate Classic Rock’s Matt Wardlaw, the band’s lead singer Phil Mogg confirmed:

“I think it’s come to a conclusion. We did that last U.K. tour in 2019, just before COVID. So that was kind of the end of it and the time was right.”

UFO had planned a big farewell. They started their goodbye tour in 2019 for their 50th anniversary. The tour got extended to 2022, and they set a final show for October 29 in Athens, Greece.

Why Did UFO Cancel Some Dates Of The Tour?

But just before that, Mogg had a heart attack and couldn’t perform. The rest of the tour got canceled, and their last concert happened on July 16, 2022, in Germany. In October 2022, Mogg shared an update on his health status, writing on Facebook:

“Thank you all for my Get Well messages. I am in the recovery position at the moment, which involves doing not very much and being catered for, which I will drag out for as long as possible before I’m rumbled. I haven’t managed to get the full blanket bath yet – apparently, I’m quite capable of washing my bits myself. Going for an assessment next month and have a bit of a sing in the studio, so fingers crossed, I might get a gig singing down the newly formed Stent Club; who knows what’s around the corner? Tally Ho!”

Vinnie Moore Speaks About Continuing After Mogg’s Heart Attack

Later in April 2023, Vinnie Moore also spoke to Guitar World about UFO’s plans after Phil’s health condition:

“It’s a wait-and-see situation to see how Phil’s physical therapy goes. I do think he wants to go on and do more shows, as he felt things ended on something of a sour note with having to cancel dates, so I think he’d much rather we went out on a high. He’s definitely in very good spirits, though.”

UFO just put out a new version of their 1977 album ‘Lights Out.’ It includes different versions of songs and a newly mixed recording of their first show on the Lights Out tour.
