Tommy Lee Gives Details Of How Mötley Crüe Used To Hide Illegal Drugs While Traveling Internationally
Mötley Crüe drummer Tommy Lee revealed how the band used to smuggle drugs internationally while they were on tour either on a bus or airplane during an old interview with Steve-O’s Wild Ride! Podcast, apparently Mötley Crüe was using the same exact technique when it comes to hiding drugs from the authorities.
As many of you may know, all of the Mötley Crüe members are known for their drug and alcohol addiction and the biggest incident was when bassist Nikki Sixx was declared dead for two minutes after a heroin overdose in December 1987 and went to rehab soon after with his bandmates.
Lead vocalist Vince Neil also had a tragic incident due to his drinking problems when his 1984 drunk-driving accident caused Hanoi Rocks drummer Nicholas ‘Razzle’ Dingley’s death, therefore Neil spent 15 days in jail and received five years probation.
Recently, an old interview of Tommy Lee resurfaced once again in which Lee revealed how Mötley Crüe hid their drugs while traveling for their tours and apparently, they used to use the vehicle’s ceiling and the emergency exit as a hiding place for their drugs as soon as they got pulled whenever they are traveling by bus.
Here is what Lee said:
“As soon as we’d stop and pull into immigration, customs, or whatever, we’d pop the top, go nice and slow, take everything, put it up on the roof of the bus, and close the ventilation.
Dogs, immigration dudes come through the bus, ‘Alright, all good. See you guys later.’ As soon as the fuckin’ bus door shut, boom, pop that up and pull it in.”
Lee also revealed that Mötley Crüe used the same exact method in order to hide their drugs, cocaine mostly, on an airplane. He stated that they would use the headline upholstery in order to conceal their drugs with a little bit of help from a double-sided tape.
Here is what he said:
“On an airplane, you’ve got your headliner upholstery. We’d take fuckin’ cocaine, whatever it was, do as much as we could before we get there, whatever’s left we’d stick … above my seat, for some reason, there was a little fuckin’ rip in the headliner. So we’d fuckin’ get the fuckin’ bag of blow and just really crank it down as little as we could and fuckin’ just get it up inside the headliner, and put it back with a little piece of double-sided tape. And you couldn’t even tell.”
