When artists get into the studio, there’s a high probability that the session’s outcome will not hit the scene as it might not fit their current project, or they are keeping it for a specific occasion. In this case, Tom Morello shared with Allison Hagendorf on her podcast that he worked on a track with Post Malone that could be at the level of Michael Jackson and Eddie Van Halen’s ‘Beat It.’

The iconic track ‘Beat It’ came to be thanks to Quincy Jones, who produced Jackson’s ‘Thriller’ album at the time and needed a guitar legend playing in the song. At the time, Van Halen had pledged his band not to be involved with any other work on the side, so he worked with Michael on the down low and decided to forgo credit on one of the biggest tracks.

Morello shared that the sick track they worked on with Malone four years ago can be his ‘Beat It.’ Since Van Halen and Jackson’s collaboration was so unexpected, theirs might also shock music lovers and introduce Malone to a new audience, but he still needs to finish the song.

Tom Morello’s words about his collaboration with Post Malone:

“Post Malone and I have a fat jam that I can’t get him to finish. This is four years ago now; we went into the studio one night, and I had heard that he was a fan of rock, so I went by. We worked on a sick jam that felt like to me it could be for him, his Beat It,’ you know, like Michael Jackson, a big pop star paired with Eddie Van Halen and made something that no one had expected.

‘This could be your ‘Beat It’ dude,’ he just won’t finish the song. He’s still a lovely dude; I see him from time to time like, ‘You’re still dropping the ball on that one.’ He’s like, ‘Yeah man, I know I’m going to do that,’ I’m like, ‘Okay.’”

If we are ever lucky enough to hear the pair’s collab, which is comparable to ‘Beat It,’ as Morello describes, we will be in for a treat. Otherwise, it is still interesting to know that Post Malone, a mega pop star has a rock side to him that he’s keeping to himself for now. After this interview, the duo may return to the studio to finish the song. We have to wait and see.
