According to Matt Walst of Three Days Grace, his voice in ‘Mayday’ sounds like Marge Simpson.

“So how do you do that demonic voice, Matt?” Three Days Grace drummer Neil Sanderson asked the singer in the video the band shared on their official Instagram account.

Walst replied, “It’s not like falsetto and it’s not full voice but it’s a mix between them like I don’t know, it’s a new one. I haven’t really used on records before. It’s kind of like Marge Simpson meets the Devil or something [laughs]. At the start of the song, when ‘We’ll never say, we’ll never say MAYDAY,’ it’s like, I’ve never really used that.”

Another Three Days Grace member Barry Stock asked Matt, “Sounds like you’re screaming at the top of your lungs. Is it loud when you’re doing it?” The singer responded, “Yeah, you don’t wanna hear it [laughs].”

Three Days Grace released ‘Mayday’ on November 22, 2024, as the first single from their new album. The song features Adam Gontier, who rejoined the band in October 2024 after 11 years. He shares vocals with Walst.

On a Loudwire Nights appearance in 2024, Walst discussed Adam Gontier’s return and revealed how long Three Days Grace had been planning it. He explained, “I think it’s been about two-and-a-half years. [That was] just the band talking about it and talking without him and then finally getting together and actually doing it.”

Walst was asked if it felt strange for his brother, Brad Walst, to talk about Gontier returning as the band’s lead singer. He replied, “No, not at all. I talked to Brad about it. I think I talked to him about it and was like, ‘What if this happened?’ And he was like, ‘Yeah, that’d be great.’ And I was like, ‘Let’s do it.’ Three years later and here we are.”

The band will tour with Disturbed in March 2025 for ‘The Sickness’ 25th Anniversary. They’ll also perform at Sick New World Fest in April and the Inkcarceration Festival in July 2025.
