The Time Miley Cyrus Threatened To Ruin Radiohead’s Thom Yorke

Radiohead has become one of the most influential and famous rock bands of all time, especially with the band’s frontman Thom Yorke’s unmatchable vocal talent and songwriting skills. However, fame and popularity come with a price even though there are countless advantages to having millions of fans. The price Radiohead paid was finding themselves in different feuds with various artists and one of them started during 2009’s Grammy Awards.

The 51st Grammy Awards took place on February 8, 2009, in Los Angeles to honor the successful works of musicians and bands from different genres of music. Many celebrities such as Taylor Swift, Miley Cyrus, Kanye West, and Adele performed shows as a part of the awarding ceremony. During the ceremony, Cyrus wanted to meet her favorite band Radiohead in person but this request actually fired up the feud between her and Radiohead frontman Thom Yorke.

What Exactly Happened Between Radiohead’s Thom Yorke and Miley Cyrus?

When Miley Cyrus, who was a teen pop star at the time, learned that Radiohead was also going to perform a show during the Grammy Awards, she let the band’s crew know that she wanted to meet them backstage.

Cyrus expressed her love and admiration for Radiohead many times until she heard the answer of the band about her request. Radiohead denied her offer by highlighting that they weren’t attending such meetings and this answer devastated Cyrus.

Here’s what the young pop star had said after that night:

“I left ’cause I was so upset. I wasn’t going to watch. Stinkin’ Radiohead! I’m gonna ruin them, I’m going to tell everyone.

Radiohead publicist’s statement read:

“When Miley grows up, she’ll learn not to have such a sense of entitlement.

Thom Yorke also responded with the following words:

“Wish us all a safe journey if you still like us and you’re not one of those people I have managed to offend by doing nothing.

It can be understood from Cyrus’ statement that she was so sad about not being able to meet her favorite band that she left the ceremony without even watching Radiohead’s performance. Later, she joined an interview and threatened to ruin Radiohead by telling everyone what they did to her. Cyrus probably thought that she wasn’t considered to be famous or talented enough to meet the band.

The band’s publicist answered her threat by emphasizing her age and taking the band’s denial of her offer too seriously and implying that her ego was speaking that time. After the statement, Radiohead frontman Thom Yorke also responded to Cyrus’ reaction through Radiohead’s Dead Air Space blog. Yorke stated that he didn’t do anything to offend her. Following that, Miley Cyrus didn’t say anything else about that night and obviously couldn’t ruin Radiohead.
