After Andy Rourke‘s passing, like his other bandmates, Mike Joyce offered some kind words about the musician on his Twitter account. Additionally, he recently appeared in an interview with BBC Breakfast to pay tribute to the late bassist and recalled their last interaction earlier this year.
On May 19, Rourke lost his battle with pancreatic cancer and passed away at the age of 59. Before this untimely event, Joyce was fortunate enough to reunite with him one final time during his visit to New York in February.
The musician recalled the encounter by saying:
“It was brilliant; it was only four days we went over. I wanted to see him. He’s not very good on texting, he’s not very good on Skype, and what have you … I wanted to see him face-to-face and say hello and see how he was doing.
It was great to see him; it was lovely. Regardless of how long it’s been since we’ve seen each other, every time we meet up, it’s as though it was yesterday.”
