The Reason Why John Lennon Wanted To Have Sex With Men
The Beatles founder, co-lead vocalist, and rhythm guitarist John Lennon had an iconic music career that spanned over more than two decades during which he proved himself to be one of the greatest singers and songwriters of all time according to music critics and fans. In addition to this legendary and influential music career, Lennon’s personal life has also been a matter of curiosity, especially his political activism and sexual orientation which often cited to be bisexual.
There’s no doubt that John Lennon has turned himself into an immortal icon thanks to his music career in addition to his songwriting partnership with his bandmate, bassist Paul McCartney which is often regarded as one of the most influential and successful of the 20th century. Lennon himself has 25 number-one singles in the US Hot 100 chart alone as well as having 14 million album sales in the US only.
However, his personal life was as sensational as his music career mainly because of his highly publicized political activism which was based on the anti-war movement and peace activism. Along with his activism, John Lennon’s sexual orientation has been questioned by his fans all the time, mostly after spending alone time with the band’s openly gay manager Brian Epstein.
Was John Lennon Bisexual? Yoko Ono Once Explained
Despite having sexual and emotional affairs with women and being married to Cynthia Lennon with whom he had a son named Julian Lennon, John Lennon fans started rumors about his sexuality after he went on holiday to Spain with the Beatles’ openly homosexual manager Brian Epstein who was allegedly attracted to Lennon, soon after Julian was born on April 8, 1963.
After the speculation about their relationship began, John Lennon later was questioned about his vacation with Brian Epstein and stated that it was like a love affair, however, it wasn’t a fulfilled relationship as the two only hang out like friends during the holiday and Lennon enjoyed the experience of having the time with a homosexual friend for the first time.
John Lennon said these about his vacation with Epstein:
“Well, it was almost a love affair, but not quite. It was never consummated. But it was a pretty intense relationship. It was my first experience with a homosexual that I was conscious was homosexual. We used to sit in a café in Torremolinos looking at all the boys and I’d say, ‘Do you like that one? Do you like this one?’ I was rather enjoying the experience, thinking like a writer all the time: I am experiencing this.”
Yoko Ono once opened up about the speculation over John Lennon‘s sexuality during an interview with The Daily Beast on October 13, 2015, as well as the rumors suggesting an alleged affair with Brian Epstein. Lennon’s widow revealed that both of them considered being bisexual. When it comes to the alleged relationship John Lennon had with the band’s manager, Ono thinks it was one-sided, however, Lennon revealed to his wife that he desired to be with man, yet, couldn’t find a match for himself that he desired.
During the interview with The Daily Beast, Yoko Ono stated:
“John and I had a big talk about it, saying, basically, all of us must be bisexual. And we were sort of in a situation of thinking that we’re not because of society. So we are hiding the other side of ourselves, which is less acceptable. But I don’t have a strong sexual desire towards another woman.”
Regarding the relationship Lennon had with Epstein, Ono said:
“The story I was told was a very explicit story, and from that, I think they didn’t have sex. I’m sure Brian Epstein made a move, yeah… just didn’t want to do it, I think. I think he had a desire to sleep with men, but I think he was too inhibited. The beginning of the year he was killed, he said to me, ‘I could have done it, but I can’t because I just never found somebody that was that attractive.’ Both John and I were into attractiveness, you know, beauty.”
As his wife revealed, the Beatles icon John Lennon was indeed bisexual regardless of the fact that he didn’t have a sexual relationship with other men, it’s more than enough to say he sexually desired to have a homosexual relationship, yet the iconic musician just couldn’t find somebody he wanted to be with and ended up only being with women.
