The Killers’ Brandon Flowers On His Feud With Green Day: ‘I’ll Live With That Embarrassment’

2 Min Read

In a recent interview with NME, The Killers’ Brandon Flowers shared his thoughts on his previous disagreements with other bands, including The Bravery and Green Day. Explaining if he felt regret over those times, the singer said:

“I’m over it now! But it nagged at me quite early on. Some of the things that I would say weren’t really representing my true self. I was a little green, not ready to be interviewed, and socially awkward, so I just resorted to name-calling! I’m a little bit embarrassed by it now, but I’ll live. I’ve apologized since.”

Back in 2006, Flowers commented about Green Day’s DVD, ‘Bullet In A Bible,’ which included a performance of ‘American Idiot.’ He said that the band was being ‘anti-American’ by playing the song in England.

This caused some controversy and problems for The Killers, but Flowers didn’t back down, although he apologized to the band through ‘The Wembley Song’ by singing, ‘Green Day I said some s**t – but that was the old me.’

Flowers Vs. The Bravery

The Bravery also found themselves in Flowers’ crosshairs when he once told Q Magazine that they were not ‘real.’ Criticizing the band’s performances, the singer explained:

“I’ve heard that the keyboard parts are all pre-programmed, and that singer can’t reach the high notes on [recent single] An Honest Mistake. I can reach those high notes.”

He later apologized for these comments, as Sam Endicott recalled in a chat with NME:

“He called me out of the blue and apologized. I was in an airport, and I didn’t believe that it was him for like ten minutes. He said, ‘I’m really sorry, I’m a jealous person, and I was jerk. I’m sorry.’ And I respect him for it, you know; it’s a hard thing to do, to apologize like that.”
