The listing reads: “‘Chop Suey’ – System of a Down. First Certification: Gold, Date: March 6, 2006. Current Certification: Diamond, Date: August 28, 2026.”
The update marks a significant achievement for the band, cementing “Chop Suey!” as one of their most commercially successful tracks two decades after its release. The Diamond certification places the song in exceptionally rare company, with fewer than 200 songs in certification history ever crossing the 10 million equivalent unit threshold required for the honor. That makes System Of A Down’s achievement one of the biggest of their career.
The single’s climb to Diamond status caps a steady rise. It began with Gold certification back in 2006 and progressed through multiple Platinum tiers before finally reaching 10x Platinum this August. That two-decade trajectory reflects the song’s enduring presence on streaming platforms and radio, long after its initial chart run.
“Chop Suey!” wasn’t the only piece of the band’s catalog to see a certification bump in the August 28th announcement. Toxicity, the 2001 album that spawned the hit single, was also upgraded to 7x Platinum status. That’s an increase from its previous 6x Platinum certification, set back in July 2022.
