As U2 gears up for their highly anticipated autumn Las Vegas residence, the Edge recently spoke to Rolling Stone and hinted at the possibility of performing the 30-year-old fan-favorite hit ‘Numb’ from their Zooropa album. He also expressed the band’s uncertainty about whether or not they will actually go through with it.
U2’s Achtung Baby Live at Sphere Las Vegas residency is set to kick off on September 29, with additional shows taking place in the following days. The residency comes as the band celebrates the 30th anniversary of their ‘Zooropa’ album, released in 1993. Although the band will pay tribute to the record during the residency, the primary focus will be on their 1991 album, ‘Achtung Baby.’
The Edge shared with Rolling Stone that while there will be some nods to ‘Zooropa’ during the residency, the band is still hesitant about performing ‘Numb,’ one of the hit songs from the album. U2 wants to create a compelling and thrilling experience for fans, and they’re still determining whether ‘Numb’ fits that criterion.
The Edge said:
“I think there will be some nods to ‘Zooropa.’ In our minds, the tours [for ‘Achtung Baby’ and ‘Zooropa’] blended into one. But I think ‘Achtung Baby’ will be the main focus.”
For ‘Numb’ he said:
“That has been discussed. But it’s by no means sure if we’ll go there. We’ll see. It’ll be about what feels the most compelling and the most thrilling.”
As fans eagerly await U2’s upcoming Las Vegas residency, there is little doubt that the band will deliver an unforgettable experience. Whether or not they decide to perform ‘Numb’ remains to be seen, but one thing is for sure – with U2, fans can always expect the unexpected.
