If you know anything about Green Day, you probably know that they are poles apart from Ted Nugent regarding their political stances. The band’s Billie Joe Armstrong is one of the most outspoken artists in the rock scene about his political thoughts, and he has no issue with some fans turning their backs on them. Although the singer argues he doesn’t align with any political party, he openly supported Barack Obama, Bernie Sanders, Hillary Clinton, and Joe Biden.

During Donald Trump’s presidency, Armstrong outspokenly criticized him and called him a fascist and Illuminati’s puppet. The punk icon’s most recent move was announcing his plans to renounce his American citizenship after the Supreme Court’s decision to allow the states to ban or legalize abortion. As a supporter of this decision, Ted Nugent couldn’t stay silent upon seeing Billie Joe’s outburst.

Nugent is almost the exact opposite of the Green Day frontman with his political views. He avidly supports Donald Trump and the Republican Party and advocates gun ownership rights. When he heard Armstrong was on his way to renouncing his citizenship, Nugent said the singer was very talented but lost his soul. Two years ago, he made a similar remark about Green Day when asked about his opinions on the band.

When we say Green Day, their protest songs and controversial political statements are among the first things that come to mind. ‘American Idiot,’ which portrays Americans as controlled by an idiot ruler who lets the media and a redneck agenda misinform people, is a milestone in this aspect. Back in 2018, when Trump was still the president, the Gazette asked Ted Nugent about his views on Green Day. Nugent called them ‘killer soulful musicians’ who make killer music but still argued they were blind to the real world regarding politics.

Here is what Ted Nugent said about Green Day:

Killer music by killer soulful musicians, yet tragically blind to the real world around them politically.”

Green Day took the stage at AMAs two years before this interview and chanted ‘No Trump, No KKK, No Fascist USA’ during their rendition of ‘Bang Bang.’ Still, Ted Nugent admitted he liked Green Day’s music and sound while claiming they didn’t see the real world around them. Considering that he recently called Billie Joe Armstrong a talented musician, it appears Nugent didn’t let his political views negatively affect him.
