In a recent interview with Fox News, Ted Nugent addressed the criticism he has faced for his political beliefs and asserted that he has actually benefited from the backlash. The musician began by expressing his thoughts on his audience, stating:
“Yeah, when I get on stage tonight and ship’s on to Indiana, and then I go to Charleston, West Virginia, Terre Haute, Indiana, Mount Vernon, Kentucky, I just keep going. I have the time of my life with the best people in the world, you’re absolutely right.”
He detailed the audience he is surrounded with and added:
“I’ve always stood up radically, really extremist for a God family country, constitution bill of rights golden rule work, ethic rule of law and order, all that really radical stuff and that represents the heart and soul of the best, most passionate, most cocky, most fun people in the world and that’s always where I’ve been surrounded by.”
The guitarist claimed himself to be the person to speak of truth and common sense and once again stated his gratitude for the people who supported him. He said:
“So when people started realizing that to be silent because of fear of being canceled- before the term cancel really wasn’t implemented- people realized that Ted Nugent was always on the front line standing up for truth, logic, and common sense. And my audiences are full of the most positive, uppity, outrageous, defiant, independent patriots in the world, and it literally is a tsunami beneath my American eagle wings.”
Nugent is publicly known to speak his mind about politics and controversies. Recently, he faced backlash for stating his belief that transgender individuals do not exist, resulting in the cancellation of his Birmingham show. Though the show was canceled due to his comments, the guitarist managed to book another show, which he called a ‘middle finger attitude.’
