‘Kill Bill’ hitmaker SZA shared her confusion about the hate against Creed and revealed being a big fan of them.

The singer appeared in a new interview with Variety. While sharing her favorite music and artists, she shared who she added to her playlists and appeared to be confused when she was laughed at for choosing Creed. SZA shared:

“The other day, you know what I pulled up? Creed, Nickelback, Train ‘Drops of Jupiter,’ just a whole bunch of that.”

When the interviewer burst out laughing and facepalming, she continued with:

“I know, I know! Wait, you know what’s crazy? Do white people hate Creed and Nickelback?”

‘Black People Love Creed’

Apparently, not only herself but, in her words, black people love Creed. When the interviewer jokingly approved that ‘white people hate Creed and Nickelback,’ the singer once again shared her confusion and added:

“Why? Black people love them! They rock! That sh*t is bomb! Why do you all hate it so much? That voice…”

When the interviewer noted that they were ‘kind of cliche,’ she continued:

“Okay, I don’t know if that’s where I was headed in the realm of ‘Yay, I was listening to Creed and Nickelback the other day in childhood nostalgia!’But I like Creed so much — ‘Higher’? Why are you hating on it?”

She went on to express her admiration for ‘Higher,’ the ninth song from Creed’s second full-length album, ‘Human Clay,’ released in 1999. She also mentioned that discovering Creed’s music while in the shower prompted her to indulge in both Creed’s and Nickelback’s music:

“Have you ever felt more inspired and uplifted in your life? I’m in the car and I’m blasting ‘Higher,’ I feel like it’s a gospel song, the vocals are going crazy and it’s also somehow slightly romantic, it just feels so fun. Because even if it’s cliche, he’s so f*cking dead ass! I will be a Creed fan forever. Like, it started just on a whim in the shower, ‘Oh, let’s play this,’ and then it became a week of Creed and Nickelback.”

SZA Was Influenced By Pop-Punk and Rock Bands

Earlier in the same interview, SZA showcased the extensive range of her musical preferences, while acknowledging her father’s jazz influence. She might be a pop musician who now has hits all over the world, but it does not change the fact that she was highly influenced by many rock artists and bands, along with her love for jazz. She mentioned a diversion of artists such as Fall Out Boy, Blink-182, Thundercat, Cleo Sol, Hiatus Kaiyote, Little Dragon, Bjork, The Cars, Joni Mitchell, and many more.
