Sum 41 frontman Deryck Whibley sat down with Rock Sound and discussed his approach to collaborations, which have become rather mainstream in the past years. In the backstage of the ‘When We Were Young’ festival, the rocker was asked about a partnership with one of the artists who played at the festival. Whibley shared:
“Well, there are bands I like and respect, but do we really need to do a song together? I don’t know.”
Although he is not sure he wants to ‘do something,’ the rocker named one of the bands he is friends with:
“I mean, for me, it’s not like I’ve collaborated with a lot of people, but I liked the collaborations that we’ve done. We worked with Ludacris, we worked with Iggy Pop. The stuff that’s different like us and say, Good Charlotte, who are great friends of ours. I don’t know if we’re going to really step out and do something.”
The band has collaborated with several artists from different genres. Having collaborations with names like Kerry King, Tenacious D, Pennywise, and as mentioned, Iggy Pop and Lucadris, the band makes sure to have a diversity of musicians included in their work.
Sum 41 will be disbanding after they release their double album, ‘Heaven And Hell,’ and going on a tour both to support the album and say goodbye to their fans. The tracklist hasn’t been announced yet, so it’s uncertain whether or not the band will be collaborating with any other artists.
