Ramones shook the rock music scene when they emerged as the first genuine punk rock band in 1974. As of now, the band still continues to be an influence over today’s artists. Speaking to Paltrocast with Darren Paltrowitz, Stone Temple Pilots bassist Robert DeLeo reflected on Ramones’ success and how they ended up being the perfect punk band.

“I discovered punk when I got into high school,” said Robert DeLeo when he remembered the first time he was introduced to punk rock. “Actually, when I got to the end of middle school. The Ramones were pretty much the first and one of the most important punk rock bands.

DeLeo continued, “How could you not like what someone was doing, like the Ramones? They were writing catchy, one-and-a-half-minute songs. It was perfect ear candy for being a sexually frustrated young boy growing into a man. I mean, it represented a lot.

Ramones represented the punk movement with their music and influenced the generation of their era. Apparently, Robert DeLeo was one of their listeners when he was young. He believes Ramones was the perfect punk band one cannot dislike, with catchy songs representing the struggles of a young boy like him.
