Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler has secured a significant legal win just days before he is set to face his abuse accuser, Julia Holcomb, in court. A Los Angeles Superior Court judge sided with Tyler on several key issues ahead of the trial, which is scheduled to begin on September 21. The ruling addresses what evidence and language will be permitted during the proceedings.
The ruling also outlined specific limits on what Holcomb can and cannot present or discuss during the trial. At the recent hearing, the judge denied Julia’s effort to exclude any evidence that she consented to the romance with Steven. The judge also ruled Julia cannot talk about an abortion she had while with Steven and alleged sexual assault after the age of 18. She is allowed to present evidence of drugs and alcohol. However, she cannot describe Steven as a sex trafficker or equate what occurred here with the Holocaust.
The case dates back more than five decades. It centers on a relationship that began under troubling circumstances. Holcomb, now known as Julia Misley, says she and Tyler began a relationship in 1973 when she was just 16 years old and he was 26. She alleges he groomed, manipulated, and sexually assaulted her over the course of roughly three years.
Holcomb brought her lawsuit in 2022, taking advantage of a limited legal window created by California’s Child Victims Act, which allowed older child sex abuse claims to be filed despite the passage of time. The suit accused Tyler of sexual assault, sexual battery, and infliction of emotional distress stemming from the alleged conduct decades earlier.
The road to trial has not been straightforward for either side. A judge previously dismissed the bulk of Holcomb’s lawsuit on statute-of-limitations grounds, narrowing the case significantly. What remains is a limited claim tied specifically to alleged conduct that occurred in California. This narrower dispute will now go before a jury.
The trial date is fast approaching. This latest ruling gives Tyler a clear tactical advantage heading into the courtroom. The judge’s decisions on what evidence can and cannot be introduced will shape how both sides present their case when proceedings begin on September 21.
