Steven Tyler addressed confusion about Aerosmith’s future during the band’s comeback shows at the Hollywood Bowl, speaking on Ultimate Classic Rock.
The frontman responded to comments made by comedian Bill Burr, who introduced the October 29 concert by calling the shows Aerosmith’s final two performances ever. Fans had interpreted Burr’s remarks as confirmation that this would be the band’s last time on stage.
“So Bill Burr said these are our final shows, huh?” Steven Tyler said. “Doesn’t he know that you can’t get rid of Aerosmith?”
He then added a more colorful assessment of the band’s staying power. “In fact, at the end of the f*cking world, there will only be cockroaches, Aerosmith and I guess, Bill Burr!”
Tyler made these remarks from the stage during the Hollywood Bowl performances, where the band returned to play after a long absence.
Aerosmith had announced the “Peace Out” farewell tour in May 2023, but the tour was halted in September 2023 when Steven Tyler fractured his larynx during a concert in Elmont, New York on September 9. In August 2024, the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame band announced that a full recovery was not possible and they would not continue touring. The Hollywood Bowl shows on October 29 and November 1 marked the band’s first performances in more than three years.
The two “Aerosmith & Friends” comeback shows featured a stacked lineup of guest performers. Slash, Billy Idol, Black Crowes, Run-DMC and other artists joined the band on stage. Johnny Depp made an unexpected appearance for “The Train Kept A-Rollin’,” teaming with Joe Perry for a dual guitar attack. Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl joined on drums for most of the set, while founding drummer Joey Kramer returned for “Walk This Way,” marking his first performance with Aerosmith since 2020.
Tyler’s confident response to Burr’s remarks suggested the band has no plans to hang up their instruments for good, despite the years away from touring and the health challenges that led to the cancellation of their farewell tour.
