Jack Osbourne recently broke his silence about the mysterious band that was dropped from Ozzy Osbourne’s final show. He addressed widespread speculation in an interview on the Hate To Break It To Ya Podcast.

The younger Osbourne clarified misconceptions about which band was involved. He also explained the financial issues that led to the cancellation.

“Everyone’s online speculating who it is, and I have not seen a single accurate (guess). Not even close,” Jack Osbourne said. “I saw something that it was Wolfgang Van Halen and it was absof*ckingutely not. Wolf wanted to be there so badly and it was just a clash in schedule (he cancelled due to touring commitments) and hey, he was getting a paid gig versus an unpaid gig. Go do the paid gig.”

He went on to explain the financial arrangements for the show. He also described how most crew members donated their time.

“It was like listen, we’ll pay for your crew, we’ll pay your hard costs, but no one is, no one’s getting paid,” he continued. “But, what ended up happening was a lot of crew donated their time. So, they were like, ‘No, we’re not charging for this….’ because a lot of the crews we’d all worked with for years anyway.”

Jack expressed frustration with the unnamed band’s financial demands. He revealed the substantial costs they requested.

“And the one band, I will say at this point, it was in the high hundreds of thousands of dollars what they said their hard costs would be. For them just to show up without any talent fee. It was very frustrating,” he said. “But here’s the thing: it was like, ‘Are you f*cking serious?’ I will give the band the benefit of the doubt, and I will say it was probably the manager, but I don’t know.”

These revelations provide new insight into the behind-the-scenes challenges that surrounded what would become a historic farewell performance for the heavy metal legend.

Collider reported that the event titled “Back to the Beginning” took place on July 5, 2025, at Villa Park in Birmingham, England. Ozzy performed seated on a throne alongside Black Sabbath. The show marked nearly 50 years since the band’s formation. It represented Ozzy’s final live performance with his legendary bandmates.

The farewell concert carried significant personal risk for the Prince of Darkness. Collider noted that Ozzy knew his time was limited when he performed his final concert with Black Sabbath. He faced health risks to fulfill his dream of a proper farewell after his recent hospital stay. Doctors had warned that performing could be fatal. Yet Ozzy chose to take the stage one last time.

The show’s impact extended beyond the performance itself. It inspired tributes from fellow musicians. Sonic Perspectives revealed that Black Label Society released an official music video for “Ozzy’s Song,” a tribute to the metal icon, directed by Justin H. Reich of Three. This demonstrated the lasting influence of Ozzy’s final performance on the metal community.

The financial controversy surrounding the dropped band adds another layer to what was already an emotionally charged and physically demanding farewell. Jack’s comments reveal the dedication of crew members who donated their time to make the historic show possible. This contrasts sharply with the unnamed band’s substantial financial demands that ultimately led to their removal from the lineup.
