Steve Zetro Souza revealed on Instagram that Exodus let him go, not the other way around.
The singer shared a photo with Testament’s Chuck Billy and wrote in the caption, “What could theses two be up to??? Possibly writing New Testament?? Well if you know the history, I have written on every album since ‘The Formation of Damnation’!! Check those liner notes!! And obviously the early stuff !! What I have heard is crushing !!! You fans won’t be disappointed!!”
A fan asked in the comments, “Why did you leave Exodus?” Souza replied by saying, “I did not leave , I was let go !! Exodus parted ways with Zetro.”
It was his first comment since recently leaving Exodus. Last month, Exodus announced they parted ways with Souza and brought back Rob Dukes.
Souza first joined Exodus in 1986 after singing for Legacy (later Testament). He stayed until 1993, then returned from 2002 to 2004. Dukes joined in 2005 after Souza left and stayed until 2014, when Souza came back.
When Exodus announced Souza’s departure on January 15, they said in a statement, “Announcement! EXODUS have parted ways with Steve ‘Zetro’ Souza. We thank Steve for his years fronting the band and all the killer music we made during that time. We wish him only the best in the future and much success with anything he does.”
They added, “And please help us welcome Rob Dukes back to EXODUS! We are beyond stoked to have Rob back ripping up the stage with us and he’s looking forward to crushing everything like only he can.”
“Next chapter begins, new record rolls along as planned and the beatings will continue. See you soon, EXODUS,” the band concluded their message.
Dukes joined Exodus in 2005 and appeared on four albums: ‘Shovel Headed Kill Machine’ (2005), ‘The Atrocity Exhibition… Exhibit A’ (2007), ‘Let There Be Blood’ (2008), and ‘Exhibit B: The Human Condition’ (2010).
