Iggy Pop Calls Måneskin A ‘Really Strong Band’
Last year, Måneskin teamed up with Iggy Pop for a new version of Måneskin’s ‘I Wanna Be Your Slave,’ which became a massive hit. The singer lent his strong vocals to the band’s top-charter track. Pop recently talked to NME, and to him, Måneskin is a band everyone should watch out for.
“That’s a really strong band,” Iggy said about the four-piece who’ve often referenced him as their inspiration for starting a band. “Damiano David is an amazing singer, and the bass player, Victoria de Angelis, handles that position well and doesn’t overplay, but on stage and in their videos, she stays with the message. Wooo, she’s a firecracker.”
Pop also quite likes their guitarist, Thomas Raggi’s smooth and powerful playing to “somewhere north of Joe Perry” and views their drummer, Ethan Torchio, as “clever,” pointing out his ear for dance music that goes in line with the way he plays rock.
He continued, “I read an interview that said they started out busking on the street in Rome and had to fight other groups for good positions. You can tell they have that background, that they’ve done something together where they got a little taste of poverty and obscurity, and I think that gives them a really nice edge.”
Since the band had to scrape their way up as a band before having any sort of recognition for what they did, it is more apparent in their sound and the way they carry themselves, giving them a unique edge that most other bands don’t have. If you’re not up to speed with Måneskin, you should broaden your horizons as they are gearing up for their new album ‘Rush,’ which will be released in the first month of the new year.
