During a recent conversation with Sonic Perspectives’ Robert Cavuoto, Steve Stevens opened up about their upcoming North American spring tour with Billy Idol and also detailed their future projects. As the guitarist revealed, they started to work on a new EP, which will arrive sometime in 2023.

Idol has been releasing EPs rather than LPs for the last few years. His latest four-song EP, ‘The Cage,’ which Stevens also contributed with his guitar playing, arrived on September 23, 2022. The album was praised for its high-quality sound and energetic tone. Although some fans might be awaiting a full-length album by the singer, it looks like he will keep releasing EPs.

In his interview, the host asked Stevens if they had been currently working on a new EP for 2023. The guitarist revealed that they were about to get started. Then he was also asked about their method of creating new material. He replied to the question of whether they started from scratch or already had some ideas in the beginning.

Stevens explained that they prefer to start from scratch now because it worked for them before. In the past, they would come up with some demos to the recording studio and start working on them. However, now they’ve changed their method to create something entirely new rather than adding to something already existing.

When asked if they were working on a new EP, the guitarist replied:

“Yeah, actually, we start Monday.”

He continued detailing their method of working:

“We’ve kind of trusted the process a bit more now, and we start from scratch because it’s worked well for us. Back in the day, obviously, you are in a recording studio that is costing 175 dollars an hour; we do pre-production with demand and come up with demos. I make my little four-track demos and stuff. But now, I’m more comfortable in just going in, bringing my guitar, and just being of service.”

The musician is getting ready to hit the road with Idol for their 2023 North American tour, which will kick off on March 30 in Scottsdale, Arizona. The tour will conclude with a final performance in Pasadena, California, on May 20.
