Red Hot Chili Peppers bass player Flea has got to be one of the most active Twitter users in the rock music scene. The musician always responds to fan questions and talks about his opinions about other artists in the industry. Hence, he recently tweeted his list of the best singers of all time.
“Sam Cooke,” Flea said for his first choice. He isn’t the only musician who considers Cooke one of the greatest singers since KISS’ Paul Stanley previously said the same thing. The bassist continued, “Whitney Houston, Johnny Cash, Nick Cave, Lightin Hopkins, Hank Williams, Nick Drake, Joe Strummer, could go all f*cking day gotta go.”
Flea admitted his admiration for all of these names during numerous interviews. Furthermore, one of these artists called Red Hot Chili Peppers’ music ‘garbage.’ It was Nick Cave who said, “I’m forever near a stereo saying, ‘What… is this garbage?’ And the answer is always the Red Hot Chili Peppers.” However, the bassist didn’t clap back at Cave after these remarks.
He only expressed how hurt he was due to his love for Cave’s music, “For a second, that hurt my feelings because I love Nick Cave. I have all of his records. I don’t care if Nick Cave hates my band. After all, his music means everything to me; because he is one of my favorite songwriters, singers, and musicians of all time.”
Regardless of what others think of him, Flea continues to pay tribute to those he holds dear the most. A few days ago, the musician named the two best solo artists on his Twitter account. They were David Bowie and Stevie Wonder, who immensely influenced Flea during the early days of his carer.
