Shinedown’s Brent Smith: Rock Music Can Never Be Replaced

Shinedown’s lead singer Brent Smith thinks rock music will never go out of style.

Smith and guitarist Zach Myers were guests on the Rock Sugar Magic podcast. Smith recalled how Ice Cube, during N.W.A.’s induction into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame, said that rock and roll is a spirit that includes everyone. He then explained why rock music can never be replaced:

“The beauty of it is that when you put people together in a room, you’re never gonna replace the dynamic of drums, bass, guitar, badass vocals in a killer song. It just will never go out of style.”

Smith Thinks Music Heals Cancer

During the conversation, the host shared a personal story about how Shinedown’s music helped her friend through stage four cancer. Brent Smith responded by saying he believes songs help cure cancer:

“I’ve gotta tell you, though, that’s something that, especially in the last few years, I’ve noticed it more like, music is a powerful thing. And especially when you’re talking about songs, but exactly what you said — I’ve seen songs cure cancer. It’s pretty powerful. There’s just a different level inside of that. Because we’re all connected to one another.”

In other news, Shinedown’s drummer Barry Kerch shared some updates about the band’s new music. Kerch said he has already recorded drums for six new songs for their next album. He hinted that new music could be out by the end of the year or early next year.

Shinedown is planning to play some tour dates this summer. You can get the latest updates here.
