In light of Ratt‘s recently released limited-edition box set, ‘The Atlantic Years: 1984-1991,’ Stephen Pearcy, the band’s lead vocalist, found himself in a recent interview with Paltrocast with Darren Paltrowitz. The chat offered the singer a chance to address some topics surrounding the band’s history.
Among the points discussed, a question occurred around the claims that without Pearcy, Ratt might not have happened. After taking credit for the band’s creation, the vocalist spread the recognition for its success around.
When reminded how he’s always been working for the band, the musician said:
“[Laughs] Yeah, that is true, unlike some of my guys. But that’s okay. Some of them don’t need to now. Back then, they might have needed to – Who knows, who knows? But everybody, teachers or – Teachers own the guys in Ratt. I mean, God bless Robbin [Crosby].
I can only do so much, as I did. I created this band, Ratt, from Mickey Ratt, and there are a lot of other people involved before the OG guys that really had to bust their a–. In Hollywood, when I moved there in 1980, January 1 to, all of a sudden, at the end of the day, go, ‘Hey! You did something.’ You know. ‘You took your band up to LA.'”
His words continued as follows:
“Because Eddie [Van Halen], I had the fortune to meet him in ’78, and I saw the whole schematic of their rise to being not just this huge band, [but also] how they created their big rock. I went, ‘You know it’s gonna take work.'”
Their new box set is out, but Ratt is currently on hiatus. With comments made by Stephen Pearcy earlier this year suggesting uncertainty about future plans, it remains a question whether the band will return.
In a conversation with On The Road To Rock, the vocalist stated:
“This won’t come back and bite me in the a– either because I put it out there. I’ve asked the other guys, as did one of the original members, let’s get together, try to figure this out, and do some business. Because that’s what it is. And if somebody doesn’t [wanna do it], they don’t.”
