In a recent interview with Radioactive MikeZ, Sophie Lloyd shared her pick for Metallica’s most ‘listenable’ album.

“That’s a really hard question, but I would have to say ‘Master of Puppets,'” the guitarist replied when asked which Metallica album she prefers, ‘Ride The Lightning’ or ‘Master of Puppets.’ “That’s what got me into Metallica, a hundred percent.”

She continued, “And just the catchiness of the riffs and stuff, everything on that, that was another album that really got me into guitar. But ‘Ride The Lightning’ is amazing as well.”

“Yeah, you can listen to [‘Master of Puppets’] front to back. And, yeah, just how listenable it is — from the first song to the last song, it tells a story throughout it. I think it’s a masterpiece,” Lloyd explained.

Other artists have also shared their opinions on the two Metallica albums. While Lloyd picked ‘Master of Puppets’ over ‘Ride The Lightning,’ Fear Factory’s Dino Cazares thinks differently.

During a chat on Wired In The Empire with Radioactive MikeZ last year, Cazares remembered seeing Metallica live during the ‘Ride The Lightning’ era, saying, “Because they opened up for Armored Saint. Now, I love Armored Saint to death.”

“But that day, Metallica on ‘Ride The Lightning’ killed Armored Saint. Half the crowd left, and it was, like, ‘Wow.’ And I was just blown away. And I think that experience, to me, to see the band raw, just ripping and just destroy a crowd, it would have to be ‘Ride The Lightning,'” Dino also noted.

The rocker stated, “Now, ‘Master of Puppets’ is a great record — don’t get me wrong; it’s a masterpiece — but it’s something about the rawness in ‘Ride The Lightning’; ‘Fight Fire With Fire,’ which is ripping.”

I would have to say, ‘Ride The Lightning.’ Of course, the production got better on ‘Master of Puppets.’ They had longer songs on that record; it was only eight songs in that record. But still, I would still say ‘Ride The Lightning.'” Cazares added.

In a 2024 interview with Radioactive MikeZ, Tesla’s Brian Wheat preferred ‘Master of Puppets’ as he thinks the songs and the performances were better.
