Slipknot’s Shawn ‘Clown’ Crahan recently provided an update on the band’s new album plans. He revealed details about their current break and creative process in an interview with NME.
Crahan addressed the band’s current status. He clarified misconceptions about their work on new material following their 2022 album ‘The End, So Far’.
“We’re doing the biggest thing we can do right now, which is taking a much-needed break,” Crahan said. “We’re taking some real human time. Everybody is writing all the time, but we have not got into a place to work on what’s been written.”
The Slipknot member also discussed potential future plans for the band to reconvene.
“It feels very positive and everyone is looking forward to getting back at it,” he continued. He noted that there are tentative plans to get together later this month but only if everyone is up for it.
Crahan’s comments directly contradict recent reports suggesting the band members are actively working on material for their next album.
This update comes at a significant time for the band. They are navigating their post-Roadrunner Records era and exploring new creative directions.
Chaoszine reported that the band’s 2022 album ‘The End, So Far’ marked the conclusion of their long-standing partnership with Roadrunner Records. This signaled a new chapter in their career. This transition has given the band more creative freedom to explore different approaches to their music-making process.
During this break period, Crahan has remained musically active through other projects. MetalSucks revealed that he’s been spending time in the studio weekly. He has been working on music for his Minecraft-based Vernearth project without the typical pressures associated with Slipknot recordings.
The percussionist has also been using this time to hone his skills and prepare for the band’s eventual return. Loudwire noted that Crahan has been practicing drums regularly during this period. This ensures he’s ready when the band decides to reconvene for their next musical endeavor.
While fans eagerly await news of a new Slipknot album, Crahan’s emphasis on taking “real human time” suggests the band is prioritizing their well-being and creative process over rushing into new material. This approach could potentially lead to a more refined and authentic follow-up to ‘The End, So Far’ when the time is right.
