Slipknot members Shawn ‘Clown’ Crahan, Corey Taylor, Jim Root and Sid Wilson have announced the release of their long-awaited project “Look Outside Your Window,” 18 years after it was originally recorded. This was reported by Knotfest.
The band members explained their creative approach and the experimental nature of the project in a joint statement.
“We knew we were heading down a different creative path, entirely apart from Slipknot, and we followed it eagerly,” they said. “We called the project Look Outside Your Window as a tribute to this experimental spirit.”
The statement continued to describe the unique recording environment and creative process behind the project.
“Created during a chaotic time in our shared history, the songs were born late at night, in a house on a farm in the middle of nowhere,” they continued. “Peering out through a big picture window, we wondered about what, or who, might be lurking outside.”
The band members further elaborated on how this atmosphere influenced their musical approach.
“That sense of the unknown seeped into the music itself,” they said. “There were no rules; ideas could come from anywhere: subtle drum loops, bits of organ or abstract guitar noise, even samples of frogs or crickets. Guided by emotion and instinct, we let the sounds themselves point the way.”
The project will be released as a Record Store Day exclusive after nearly two decades in the vault.
This announcement marks the end of a long wait for fans who have been curious about the mysterious project since its existence was first revealed years ago.
Blabbermouth revealed that the experimental album was originally recorded during the sessions for Slipknot’s 2008 album “All Hope Is Gone.” The project emerged during a period of creative tension within the band. The four members sought a different artistic outlet separate from their main band’s direction.
Louder Sound confirmed that the project consists of 11 experimental tracks that showcase a completely different side of the musicians’ creativity. The album will be released on April 18 as a limited edition pink and blue splatter vinyl. Only 2,300 copies will be available worldwide, making it a highly sought-after collector’s item.
The project’s existence was first publicly acknowledged by Clown in a 2018 Metal Hammer interview. He revealed the creative frustration that led to its creation. “While too much politics was happening in the studio, I was blowing my fucking brains out with art,” he said, referring to the tensions during the “All Hope Is Gone” recording sessions.
Metal Injection noted that Corey Taylor previously explained that the music was originally intended to be released alongside “All Hope Is Gone.” Internal band conflicts prevented its completion and release at the time. The project remained shelved for nearly two decades until the band members decided to finally share this unique chapter of their creative history with fans.
