Elton John Protests Elon Musk’s Recent Twitter Policy Change

Elon Musk’s Twitter takeover continues to make headlines. This time, it’s Elton John who decided to show his stance against Musk’s moves to make Twitter a haven for free speech. John recently posted a tweet to announce he’s leaving the platform, and the Tesla CEO decided to step in.

The first thing Elon Musk did after buying Twitter for $44 billion was to fire 50% of the staff without thinking twice. Following that, he conducted a poll and restored Donald Trump’s account to take the first step toward his free speech ambitions. However, this move caused him to receive huge backlash, especially from celebrities and musicians.

Recently, Elton John decided to join those who chose not to use Twitter. “All my life, I’ve tried to use music to bring people together. Yet it saddens me to see how misinformation is now being used to divide our world,” he wrote in his tweet. “I’ve decided to no longer use Twitter, given their recent change in policy, which will allow misinformation to flourish unchecked.”

Upon seeing this, Elon Musk asked John about the part he wrote about misinformation and hoped the music icon would change his mind. “I love your music,” said Elon Musk, “Hope you come back. Is there any misinformation in particular that you’re concerned about?”

A user then argued it might be a “newly minted, Marxist social media person with brain damage” who posted this tweet, not Elton John. “It’s true that most celebrities don’t write their own posts,” Elon Musk agreed, implying this might be possible. He added, “More should. Way better to hear directly from them.”

Before Elton John’s move to leave the platform, Nine Inch Nails’ Trent Reznor deleted his account. Jack White, on the other hand, deactivated the account of his label, Third Man Records. When Musk banned Kanye West from Twitter, White continued his protest by accusing the billionaire of hypocrisy and breeding chaos.
