Since Jay Weinberg’s sudden split with Slipknot, the band received enormous criticism from fans and listeners. One of the comments about the split came recently from a local rocker as well. Sister Shotgun singer Chloe Ozwell appeared on the latest Let’s Get Heavy Podcast episode and discussed Weinberg’s departure from Slipknot.

When the host shared his thoughts about the split and noted that Slipknot has become a business band rather than just a metal band, Ozwell agreed and shared her own thoughts. She said:

“Slipknot is no longer a band. It’s a business, a brand… Yeah. Especially when you’ve got everything happening with Knotfest and they’ve become more of like an online news outlet now as opposed to a festival. I think Slipknot have become like Kiss very much in the way that they are building themselves a business and an empire and putting the names to a lot of different things. To me, I think Slipknot are the next Kiss.”

Why Jay Weinberg Was Fired

The two parties say different things about the drummer’s exit from the band. According to Weinberg’s explanation, he did not know anything about the band’s decision, and instead, he just received a phone on the morning of November 5 and was told that he was out of the band. Still, the rocker did not forget to thank his former bandmates and shared that ten years of his experience with the band has been nothing but joy.

As opposed to the rocker’s explanation, the band said in a now-deleted statement that the band decided to ‘make a creative decision’ and split ways with their drummer. In addition to their explanation, they noted that not even Weinberg could replace the sound of their late drummer, Joey Jordison.

Comments on Weinberg vs. Comments on Slipknot

After Slipknot announced the split, their posts were eventually filled with hate comments and arguments about whether or not he was fired or he made the decision on his own. A week later, it was ultimately revealed that he was fired.

Some fans touched on the earlier firing of their former members, Craig Jones, who was fired in June this year, and Chris Fehn, who departed in 2019. The user said:

“Chris was right. Joey was right. Craig won’t talk about it – but let’s see, they announced his departure an hour before a show after using him in a video and all the promo up until that point.”

Another fan said:

“Slipknot, you’ve made the greatest mistake in your guys’ career. Jay is by far a class act. He filled a void that we miss from Joey…”

Despite the negative comments Slipknot got, Weinberg’s comment section was filled with many heartfelt and supportive words. The drummer received comments not only from his fans but from fellow drummers as well. Lorna Shore drummer Austin Archey, Green Day drummer Tre Cool, Dream Theater drummer Mike Portnoy, and Gojira drummer Mario Duplantier all showed their support in the comments of his statement.

In addition to fellow rockers, his father, also known as the Bruce Springsteen drummer Max Weinberg, shared his feelings with his son.
