Slipknot guitarist Jim Root has revealed new details about the band’s highly anticipated new album, sharing an update from the studio in a post on Instagram.
The post confirms that the band is actively working on new material. This marks their first record since the controversial dismissal of long-time DJ Sid Wilson. It is also their first release since welcoming drummer Eloy Casagrande back in 2024.
Jim Root wrote in the caption of his photo:

The brief but pointed caption suggests the band has moved into active recording sessions for the upcoming project. Fans will be watching closely for further updates as the new lineup continues work on what is expected to be a pivotal release for Slipknot.
The confirmation comes after months of anticipation surrounding the direction of the band’s next chapter. It offers the clearest signal yet that the record is moving forward in earnest.
Slipknot has amassed around 50 song ideas for the project. The band has also brought in producer Matt Wallace, known for his work with Faith No More and Mushroomhead, to help shape the material. That level of output points to an ambitious writing process, one that has been building for some time behind the scenes even as the band navigated significant lineup changes.
Those changes came to a head on August 14, when Slipknot officially confirmed the end of its nearly three-decade relationship with Sid Wilson. The band’s statement left no room for ambiguity: “Effective immediately, Slipknot will no longer be associated with Sid Wilson.” The split marks one of the most significant shakeups in the group’s history. It sets the stage for the new album to stand as a clear break from the band’s past era.
Drummer Eloy Casagrande joined Slipknot in 2024 after departing Sepultura. He has been part of this new chapter from the start. In an interview with Drummer’s Review last October, Casagrande teased that the band had already been working on fresh material, though he offered no concrete timeline at the time. His presence behind the kit now stands as one of the defining features of this next Slipknot era, alongside the departure of Wilson and the arrival of a producer with deep roots in heavy music.
With tracking underway and a stacked well of song ideas to draw from, Slipknot appears to be entering a pivotal creative phase.
