In a new interview with Classic Rock, Lenny Kravitz recalled seeing Slash after a long time and how their reunion eventually led to their collaboration on the song, ‘Always On The Run.’

Kravitz recalled Slash’s words where he said he had some ‘great’ times to his records. “Axl was wearing a ‘Let Love Rule’ button on his leather jacket. Slash came up to me and said: [drawls] ‘Man, I got laid to your records so much, man.’ Then as we were talking, I said: ‘Dude, didn’t we go to high school together?’ It wasn’t that many years before, but we looked different. We said: ‘Man, we should do something together.'”

Kravitz then recalled working with the guitarist after a Guns N’ Roses European tour. “[He] arrived at eight in the morning, and went right to my loft. I had to go to that same upstairs neighbor that I bumped into this week, and wake them up to borrow a bottle of vodka. And then we went straight to the recording studio – at nine in the morning. He thought I was out of my f*cking mind. And we did ‘Always On The Run’ right there.”

The plan was for Slash to play a guitar solo on ‘Fields of Joy,’ the opening track of Kravitz’s second album, ‘Mama Said.’ In an interview with MusicRadar in 2019, Kravitz explained that the recording session went very quickly.

‘Mama Said’ went on to become a big success. The track earned platinum certifications in five countries, including the US, UK, and Canada.
