Guns N’ Roses guitarist Slash has reached a major personal milestone. His long-time girlfriend Meegan Hodges shared an emotional tribute to mark his 20th anniversary of sobriety.
Hodges took to social media to express her admiration and pride for Slash. She dedicated a heartfelt message to honor the occasion.
“HAPPY 20 YEAR SOBER BIRTHDAY! I am in complete awe of everything you do,” Hodges wrote.
She went on to highlight his strength of character and the broader impact he has on those around him.
“You have discipline that goes above and beyond. You inspire me and others to be a better person. I love you so much my love,” she continued.
The tribute underscores the significance of Slash’s two-decade journey with sobriety — a road that was far from easy, and one that nearly ended before it truly began.
Slash became completely sober in 2006, following a life-threatening health crisis that forced him to confront the full consequences of his addiction. Years of heavy drinking had caused his heart to swell until it nearly burst. In 2001, he suffered severe alcohol poisoning — a wake-up call that ultimately set him on the path to recovery.
At just 35 years old, Slash was facing a reality that few survive. He had pushed his body to its absolute limits through prolonged substance abuse. The fact that he pulled through and rebuilt his life stands as a testament to his resilience.
Sobriety did not slow Slash down creatively — if anything, it sharpened him. Being sober allowed him to be more present, creative, and focused on his music. He has since toured sober and deepened his artistic output, most notably through his ongoing work with Myles Kennedy and the Conspirators alongside his return to Guns N’ Roses.
Meegan Hodges has been a consistent presence throughout this journey. She previously honored his 15th anniversary with a similar tribute on social media, cementing her role not just as a partner, but as one of his most vocal supporters.
Twenty years on, the milestone is a reminder of how far Slash has come — from the edge of collapse to one of rock’s most enduring figures, still performing, still creating, and still inspiring those around him.
