O’Connor’s Death Announcement

O’Connor, who got the name Shuhada Davitt after converting to Islam, died at the age of 56. Her family shared the news of her passing through a statement to RTE and the BBC, without sharing the reason behind it:

“It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Sinéad. Her family and friends are devastated and have requested privacy at this very difficult time.”

The News Came After Her Son’s Passing

The singer’s death followed that of his 17-year-old son, Shane O’Connor. Shane lost his life due to suicide days after going missing in January 2022. O’Connor mourned his passing on social media, writing in a tweet:

“Been living as undead night creature since. He was the love of my life, the lamp of my soul. We were one soul in two halves. He was the only person who ever loved me unconditionally. I am lost in the bardo without him.”

Having released ten albums throughout her career, the late artist announced her retirement from the music scene only a year before Shane died.
