In a recent chat with ‘The Breakdown With Nath & Johnny,’ Shawn Crahan talked about his history with Slipknot and mentioned not wanting to change anything or do it all over again. He said:
“I like the memory. I got what I could. It’s been a ride. You can’t take it from me; I’m the Clown. Doesn’t matter anymore. I signed a deal. I’m off that deal. Doesn’t matter. You don’t like the Clown? Big f**king deal! Doesn’t make a difference.”
Crahan then touched on the cryptic side of his Slipknot persona, noting how there was no way to prove his identity as the Clown:
“Maybe I am not even the Clown. You guys wouldn’t know. You guys [have] seen some pictures of my double. Let me send you Morgan Freeman’s double. You’ll be like, ‘That’s Morgan Freeman.’ I’ll be like, ‘No, that’s his double. I worked with him.’ You’ll be like, ‘No, that’s Morgan Freeman!’ It’s the point. It’s what Slipknot is. You have no proof. Like Jesus. You have no proof.”
The formation and evolution of Slipknot started in 1995 with Crahan, Andy Rouw, and Paul Gray. The Clown came up with the idea of wearing masks in their Iowa years, leading to the band’s current image.
The Percussionist’s Sacrifices For The Band

The passing years required the Slipknot members to make some sacrifices, which Crahan spoke of during the interview. Reflecting on their early years, the percussionist highlighted the band’s demanding life:
“I’m here to tell you my friend Paul Gray was at my wedding three years prior [to] he and I and Andy starting the band. And that’s that. And so, I had family. Then we start the band, and then a year or so after starting the band, we get pregnant and have our third child, and we have that child before we’re signed.”
He added:
“So, we have three children and lots of work raising children. And I’ve been married now five, six, seven years — three years before we even started the band, so everybody needs to kind of figure it out about reality of what sacrifice really is.”
In their 25th year in the music scene, Slipknot is planning to hit the road for a tour in Europe and the UK with 11 shows to celebrate their self-titled debut album.
