1975’s Matt Healy Deletes Social Media After Growing Tired Of Criticism

Social media platforms give everyone the opportunity to speak their minds and reach perhaps hundreds of thousands of people. However, this reach can be scary, and not everyone can handle the criticism of their written words. The 1975’s singer, Matty Healy, decided to delete his social media accounts for this very reason.

There are a couple of instances where Matty Healy was criticized for uttering controversial words in interviews regarding homophobia and Islamophobia. Earlier this year, he received backlash for claiming that Harry Styles is queerbaiting and complained about how Harry is getting a pass because girls like him. The conversation touched upon a sensitive subject that offended many people.

While a lot of media outlets have been reporting on his controversial and divisive words, social media had a more profound effect on the singer’s life. He has been called names and was even canceled for his words. According to NME, he recently came to the realization that he is not made for social media because everyone perceives him as a bad person. He also stated that he loves performing on stage but doesn’t love performing in his normal life and on social media.

Healy said:

“It’s because everything happens in eras. The 1975 is a very eras band. The era of me being a f*cking arsehole is coming to an end. I’ve had enough. I perform all the time, and it’s my job, and I love doing this, but I can’t perform off the stage anymore as I just want to be a bloke.”

In a world where social media dominates our lives, it’s refreshing to see someone take a step back and prioritize their mental health. Matty Healy’s decision to delete his social media accounts and step away from the constant scrutiny and criticism is a bold move in a world that demands constant online presence.
