Sevendust guitarist Clint Lowery recently addressed speculation about the band’s upcoming record. He clarified misconceptions in a statement shared on ChurchLeaders.

Lowery explained that while the band has explored faith-related themes in their music, the new album is not exclusively a Christian metal record. He discussed how one particular song, “Till Death,” became a vehicle for exploring his personal spiritual journey.

“I did a couple interviews and someone said this next Sevendust is going to be a Christian metal record, which I got a kick out of,” Lowery said. “People take headlines. But what it was, was, you know, we’ve touched, we flirted with the topic in our past. And there’s a song in particular called ‘Till Death’ where I was really coming to terms. This is the heaviest song we have. And I was coming to terms with my faith in my own way.”

Lowery elaborated on his spiritual process. He explained that he worked with a pastor to authentically express his faith journey without forcing the theme throughout the entire album.

“Just kind of one foot in, one foot out, not fully there, acknowledging Christ, acknowledging the Bible, but not knowing the scripture. Not having a personal relationship. And that was a big difference,” he continued. “So I went and talked to the pastor that I got saved by, and we kind of worked through a lot of stuff with me, and he’s kind of my mentor in the Bible. And [he] guided me through. And he was… I was like, ‘What do I write?’ Because it’s on my heart to write about this and the struggle of what brought me there, and just my relationship [with God.]”

Lowery emphasized that the songwriting process remained organic rather than formulaic.

“I wanted to write about it. And I said I don’t want to write every song [about my faith,] I don’t want to just automatically do that. I want it to be natural. He said, ‘Just let God guide you in there.’ I had six songs that kind of came from me, you know, and every one of them have something to do with giving… connecting with God. The struggle within, the brokenness of all of us, and just recognizing that there’s hope. It was very hopeful.”

Beyond the lyrical content, Lowery highlighted the album’s musical direction. He also noted the positive atmosphere within the band during its creation.

“Even though the musical landscape — the music is heavy — it’s [also] probably our most melodic record in a while. It was fulfilling. And not only that, the energy in the room, the relationships within the band are so good. And I feel like God has worked. Because I used to join in the gossip. I used to add to the negatives. I used to do all those things.”

Lowery reflected on his personal transformation and its impact on the band’s dynamics.

“And I changed a few things. And you don’t realize how much of a bad ingredient you are to the soup until you change what you’re adding to it. And I was adding… I’d just [now] be a little quieter during the negative things and then more encouraging when people [were positive.] And God gave me these connections with people that I wouldn’t have found without the suffering that I had gone through that that got me to him.”

The new record represents a significant milestone for the legendary metal band. Sevendust has completed tracking for their 15th studio album in late 2025, as reported by NumetalAgenda. The release is anticipated in early 2026 through Napalm Records. This upcoming project continues the band’s long-standing collaboration with producer Michael “Elvis” Baskette, marking their fourth consecutive album together.

The production partnership with Baskette has become integral to Sevendust’s sound evolution. The band is concurrently engaged in an acoustic anniversary tour celebrating their legacy, as noted by 107.7 The Bone. This tour showcases a different, more intimate side of their music alongside the heavy new material in development. The dual approach demonstrates the band’s versatility and their commitment to exploring various facets of their artistic expression.

The balance between heaviness and melody that Lowery emphasized in his comments aligns with the band’s established sonic identity. Sevendust’s sound is known for its heavy yet melodic quality, as detailed by Metal Injection. The new album is expected to continue this tradition while reflecting the band’s enduring unity and experience. The combination of introspective lyrics and the band’s signature intense instrumentation promises to deliver another powerful entry in their extensive discography.

With the album tracking complete and a 2026 release on the horizon, fans can anticipate a record that captures both the musical intensity Sevendust is known for and the personal growth Lowery has experienced. The convergence of faith-inspired songwriting, melodic arrangements, and the band’s characteristic heaviness suggests this album will resonate with both longtime supporters and new listeners seeking meaningful metal music.
