System of a Down singer Serj Tankian shared the real reason behind his decision to stop touring.
Speaking to Revolver, the rocker was asked about his earlier comment about stopping to tour and whether or not it still applied. Referring to his health and the back surgery he has had in 2021, he replied:
“Some of my back stuff is a lot better, in terms of health, which is cool. I have some other things I’m dealing with right now, which may or may not be affected by travel or touring.”
His Reason to Stop Touring Was Not Only Related to Health Issues
Although the rocker first shared his decision to stop touring in October 2022 for health-related reasons, he recently made it clear that it was more than just health reasons. He continued in the same interview:
“It wasn’t just a health-related decision as far as cutting down on touring, but also a lifestyle decision. Based on family and vision.”
The band has actively toured with on-and-offs. Having been in the music industry for over 20 years, Tankian started to focus on his personal life rather than professional music career. Tankian shared what he thinks of his music career now:
“I’ve been touring for 20-something years, on and off, of course. Not every year. And it’s fun, it’s profitable, it makes a lot of people happy in terms of being out there and sharing the music and [seeing] the reaction, and people really enjoying it and getting that feedback. But after years of doing it and the travel that’s involved, it’s one of those things where it’s not the top priority on my list in life.”
Serj Tankian is Focusing to Spend More Time with His Family
Family comes first for the System of a Down frontman. The rocker now has a son at the age of 9, which he wants to spend more time on. Going on tours over and over did not only affect his health but his relationship with his family as well. Following the conversation in the same interview, Tankian opened up about his family and said that when the band made a small tour, he took his family with him while ensuring it was all about prioritizing life.
So, it is worth noting that the rocker is not planning to return to performing anytime soon and mainly focuses on himself and his family.
