Alice In Chains drummer Sean Kinney has issued a statement about his health issues and tour plans through Alice In Chains’ official X account.
Kinney offered a detailed explanation to fans regarding his medical situation and the band’s immediate future.
“Firstly, to everyone who came out to the Mohegan Sun show and was affected by the short-notice cancellation, and to everyone who had tickets to come see the band at one of the other shows, thanks for your understanding,” Kinney said. “It’s not lost on the band and myself that you spend money, make plans and alter your schedules to come and see us, and it’s deeply disappointing to have had this happen.”
He addressed his private approach to health matters: “I don’t personally utilize social media and I’m not particularly fond of my health issues being made public, but I understand that people are concerned.”
Kinney then described his personal journey of accepting his medical situation through the five stages of grief:
“When the doctors advised me against playing in the short-term, I quickly went through The 5 Stages of Grief: 1. Denial (I’m fine) 2. Anger (F*** this – I’m still going to play) 3. Bargaining (What’s it gonna take for me to hear a better diagnosis?) 4. Depression (This sucks) 5. Acceptance (This sucks, but okay),” he explained.
He concluded his statement with a mix of reassurance and humor: “The good news is that I’m going to be fine and I’m going to live. The bad news (for some of you?) is that I’m going to be fine and I’m going to live.”
The band has confirmed they will pause their tour activities during their drummer’s recovery.
The health-related decision has impacted their touring schedule significantly. Louder Sound reported the cancellation of several major appearances. These included performances at Welcome To Rockville and Sonic Temple festivals.
Medical professionals have evaluated Kinney’s condition. 98KUPD revealed that while the specific details remain private, doctors confirmed his condition requires immediate attention but is not life-threatening.
Loudwire highlighted the band’s firm stance on lineup integrity. They will not proceed with tour dates using a replacement drummer during Kinney’s recovery period.
This approach demonstrates Alice In Chains’ dedication to their original lineup. Kinney has remained an essential member since the band’s formation in 1987.
