Sammy Hagar Recalls The Show That Michael Anthony Got Wasted On Stage

The Circle frontman Sammy Hagar told a great tequila story, including his bandmate and bassist Michael Anthony, in his appearance on PubClub LIVE!. Anthony’s funny moments during their 2021 Las Vegas residency amused everyone around Hagar.

Sammy Hagar and Michael Anthony have known each other since the musician became Van Halen’s frontman in 1985, replacing David Lee Roth, who left to pursue a solo career. Although they parted ways with the band for different reasons, their close friendship and musical partnership didn’t end. The two artists collaborated for Sammy Hagar and the Circle, Chickenfoot, and countless other projects over the years.

Last year, the Van Halen icon decided to bring the Cabo Wabo Birthday Bash’s spirit to his Sammy Hagar and Friends shows in Las Vegas. Of course, his longtime friend and bandmate, Anthony, joined him. The events took place on October 29-30, 2021, and November 5-6, in Strat Residency. During his recent conversation, Hagar was asked to share a memory involving too much alcohol, and the first thing that came to his mind was about the bass player.

The singer recalled a Las Vegas show from last year and revealed that they had been drinking a lot. At the end of the show, when they were ready to bow, Anthony bent down but couldn’t get back up. He was too wasted to get up, which made it one of the funniest stories about their recent Las Vegas concerts. It seems like Michael Anthony and Sammy Hagar will continue to be part of these tequila-fueled moments as long as they create and perform together.

Here’s what Hagar said:

“Let me think. A good tequila story you usually forget. It would probably involve Michael Anthony, too much tequila, and somebody falling down. At the end of the show, Mikey was doing the bow, and he didn’t come up. We came up and were like, ‘Oh, Mikey.’ That happened in Vegas during the Residency last year. Mike went down, and we all did a bow, as I said. Three of us came up, and Mikey didn’t.”
