Former Ozzy Osbourne bassist Rudy Sarzo discussed Black Sabbath’s final show in an interview with Z93 The Rock Station.
“Not only myself but also Jake E. Lee has been invited to participate [in Black Sabbath’s final show], which is great because this will be a celebration of Ozzy’s solo career, not just Black Sabbath,” Sarzo said. “My connection with that, I as far as I see on the poster, I am the only member of the era of that band with Randy Rhoads, Tommy Aldridge, and Ozzy. I will be the representative of that,t and to me, that is an honor beyond anything that I can describe.”
“The way I look at it is the meeting of the tribes. The heavy metal tribes gathering to pay tribute to the architects of the music that we play, the people who invented it,” he continued.
“I don’t know if you have noticed, but many artists lately have just been fading out,” Sarzo explained. “You don’t even know whether they’re retired or not. But they really are, and they’re just not announcing it. And I think that especially for a band like Black Sabbath, that came in so strong into the pages of music history with what they created. You can’t just fade out. You got to throw the biggest event.”
Sarzo’s enthusiasm reflects his significant role in Ozzy Osbourne’s musical journey during the early 1980s.
The official announcement from Ozzy.com confirmed the historic final performance at Villa Park in Birmingham on July 5th. The ‘Back to the Beginning’ event will reunite the original Black Sabbath lineup. Ozzy Osbourne, Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler, and Bill Ward will perform together for the first time in twenty years.
The farewell show features an impressive lineup of performers. Metallica, Slayer, Pantera, and Alice In Chains will join the celebration. Cure Parkinsons revealed that all proceeds will support multiple charities. The beneficiaries include Cure Parkinson’s, Birmingham Children’s Hospital, and Acorn Children’s Hospice.
Consequence reported on Ozzy’s plans despite his health challenges. The singer continues to manage Parkinson’s disease. He will perform ‘little bits and pieces’ with Black Sabbath during the final show. Ozzy will deliver a solo set before joining his original bandmates for a grand finale of their classic songs.
The event transcends a typical farewell concert. It stands as a celebration of both Ozzy’s solo career and Black Sabbath’s enduring legacy in heavy metal history.
